Employers in Serbia under heavy fiscal burden
Employers in Serbia are heavily burdened by fiscal expenses and taxes, Employers Union President Nebojsa Atanackovic told N1 on Wednesday.
Most employers want salaries to be higher because that means a higher turnover but we can’t ask for more than we make, he said adding that something like that is only possible in the public sector and institutions paid from the state budget.
“The prime minister can say that salaries and pensions will be higher if there is a surplus >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << in the budget but she can’t say that salaries will rise in the real sector. Salaries in that sector have been catching up to the public sector in which the government has raised salaries. That is something the real sector can’t do. Have you heard of anyone complaining in that sector, employees get paid where there is money,” he said.
Atanackovic said he agrees with the union demands for respect for the law and contracts and elimination of unregistered employment. “That is the job of the state which has to have the mechanism to prevent negative occurrences. Some company owners think their employees are slaves but anyone who wants their company to move forward will not behave in that way. “There are law which have to be respected. Employers can’t left to decide how to behave towards their employees,” the Employers’ Union chief said.
