Serbia's Min: EU to take concrete moves against Pristina

Nebojsa Stefanovic, Serbia’s Interior Minister, called on the European Union on Thursday to instead of just giving statements take concrete measures against Kosovo’s decision to increase import tariffs for goods from Serbia to 100 percent , the Beta news agency reported.

Stefanovic told the Belgrade-based Pink television that “Pristina's action aims at oppressing the Serbs in Kosovo,” adding that the move >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << “brings in instability to the whole region.”

Regarding the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations, Stefanovic asked: “what would be the point of it after all these decisions by Kosovo's authorities?”

On November 6, Kosovo’s Government raised import tariffs for goods from Serbia and Bosnia at 10 percent, in violation of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), causing criticism from Belgrade, Sarajevo, CEFTA member countries and the EU.

The Union's diplomacy chief Federica Mogherini, who mediated the Belgrade - Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations, called on Pristina to revoke the decision.

Instead, Kosovo’s authorities decided on Wednesday to put the customs duties at 100 percent.

Mogherini reiterated the call for the abolishment of the decision, and this time said it was not only against the CEFTA agreement but also against the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between Kosovo and the EU.

There was still no reaction from Pristina, early on Thursday.

Serbia’s President said late of Wednesday that Belgrade would not retaliate.

“We won’t stop their lorries, we won’t stop their goods,” Vucic told reporters following the Council for National Security meeting called to decide on further moves from Serbia.

However, Aleksandar Vucic said that all state institutions would be on alert since Belgrade could not expect any rational decision from Pristina, but pleaded with Kosovo to annul the tax increase and understand that the dialogue was all about a compromise.

Enver Hoxhaj, a Kosovo deputy Prime Minister, said on Wednesday that Kosovo took the decision to protect its vital interests since “Serbia continues with its aggressive campaign (against Kosovo) at the international scene,” which, according to him, thwarted the normalisation.
