MP says EU membership guarantees Belgrade-Pristina agreement
Serbian ruling party MP and head of the parliament Kosovo committee Milovan Drecun said on Friday that firm guarantees of European Union membership for Serbia would ensure the implementation of a possible Belgrade-Pristina agreement.
“Firm guarantees of EU membership after pre-accession negotiations would be something that guarantees that the agreement to normalize relations would be implemented and viable >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << in the long term,” Drecun told the Serbian state TV (RTS).
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told the Reuters news agency on Thursday that an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina should bring guarantees that Serbia would become an EU member by 2025.
That kind of guarantee would bring progress to Kosovo on its European path, he said, adding that he feels that there is more understanding for a Greater Albania than a European perspective in Pristina.
Drecun said that the Kosovo government decision to change laws governing the Kosovo Security Forces runs counter to UN Security Council resolution 1244. “The forming of armed forces in Kosovo would jeopardize inter-ethnic relations and could be directed against the Serbs in northern Kosovo,” he said.
