Thaci: region welcomes Kosovo-Serbia agreement
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said on Thursday that Western Balkan countries would welcome an agreement to normalize Belgrade-Pristina relations, adding that this is in the interest of Kosovo and the region.
Thaci told a news conference after visits to Tirana, Podgorica and Skoplje, that the countries of the region support the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, adding that a legally binding agreement would open up a European perspective for Serbia and Kosovo.
“Everyone >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << is in favour of the dialogue and negotiations. Everyone would welcome an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia which would open a European perspective. I met with the presidents of Albania and Montenegro and the prime minister of Macedonia. Those countries support the dialogue and would welcome a peace agreement in the interest of our two countries,” the Kosovo president said.
He said the process cannot be completed without mutual recognition and a demarcation of the 430 kilometres of their border. “A correction of the border secures direct recognition by Serbia and the annexation of the Presevo Valley to Kosovo. Recognition by Serbia means recognition by the five European Union countries which have not recognized Kosovo and the start of the process of creating a Kosovo military,” he said adding that this would also eliminate a possible Russian veto in the UN Security Council.
