Serbian FM: Problems should not cause war in Balkans
The problems that exist in the Balkans do not have to be the cause of war, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a conference on security challenges in the region in Romania, Dacic said the international community needs to show more understanding for the Balkans. “We are trying to conduct a balanced foreign policy with respect for our strategic goals,” he said.

The foreign minister said that Serbia can’t achieve its strategic goal of membership in the European Union until it reaches a legally binding agreement with Kosovo. “Does anyone in the EU know what the agreement should say and whether that means that Kosovo should recognize Kosovo,” he said adding that this raises the dilemma of whether Serbia should choose the EU or Kosovo.
“We will not recognize Kosovo at any cost because it’s not a question of choosing the EU or Kosovo. We don’t want questions like that asked. We want a peaceful solution but not humiliation for Serbia,” he said.
