Serbia's PM: Territory swap not enough for final solution
In an interview with the London-based Financial Times, the Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic reiterated that Belgrade and Pristina were far away from a comprehensive peace agreement in spite of an open discussion on the exchange of territories, the Beta news agency reported.
She warned that even if the territory swap was agreed, “it would be only a part of a possible final settlement,” and not enough for a peace deal.
“A final agreement, if reached, will >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << have to be comprehensive. It will have to include human rights, minority rights, economic cooperation, long-lasting cooperation between Serbs and Albanians, the cultural heritage, churches and monasterie, as well as learning both languages,” Brnabic said.
She added Kosovo Albanian leaders were wrong in believing that the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue would end in Serbia’s formal recognition of Kosovo independence.
“They think – ‘yes, Serbia will simply recognise our independence,’ but that won’t happen. They have to leave their comfortable position and meet us in the middle of the road where we are waiting for them.
Let’s make a compromise, whatever it takes,” the Prime Minister told The Financial Times.
The Belgrade – Pristina dialogue held in Brussels under the European Union auspices has been on hold for months, and there is no sign from either side when it may resume.
