Serbia’s FM: Pristina’s high demands prevent agreement
Ivica Dacic, Serbia’s Foreign Minister, said on Tuesday that “Pristina’s demands the recognition of the Presevo valley independence are the main obstacle to solving the Kosovo issue,” the Beta news agency reported.
He echoed the words of Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic that it was difficult to say when an agreement could be reached that would lead to a solution which the relations >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << with Pristina would be based on.
“It’s not a secret that the main obstacle to any agreement is Pristina’s readiness to ask for a maximum. They don’t want a compromise, but they want us to recognise their independence and to get something on top of that – Serbia’s southern region of the Presevo Valley,” Dacic told the state RTS TV.
He said Serbia had to be realistic and see what was a perspective in the international relations, “because the country does not live on myths.”
Dacic said he thought that the partition of Kosovo was a solution, and called on everyone with a better idea to come forward, asking “is it better to have an independent Kosovo as a whole or something else?”
Pristina's officials have vehemently rejected any talks on Kosovo’s division and said the only solution they could accept was a mutual recognition and, if possible, the secession of the Presevo Valley from Serbia and its coupling with Kosovo.
Dacic said that Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo as a state was never a topic in the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue facilitated by the European Union.
“No one has ever mentioned that or our consent for Kosovo to join the United Nations,” Serbia’s Foreign Minister said.
