Good relations with Serbia possible, NATO says

NATO's invitation to Skopje to start membership talks does not change the Alliance's relations with Serbia, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has told reporters in Brussels on Tuesday.

He added that NATO “respects Serbia’s stand not to join the Alliance.”

At a news conference ahead of the two-day NATO summit in Brussels starting on Wednesday, Stoltenberg said he did not expect changes in the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << policy toward the Western Balkans after the forthcoming meeting between the US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

“I cannot speculate on the outcome of the meeting, but I believe that NATO will continue to work with the Western Balkans because we are present in Belgrade, Sarajevo and we have Kfor” in Kosovo, Stoltenberg said.

NATO Secretary General also welcomed both “the fact that Montenegro, now a member state, gives its contribution to the Kosovo mission”, and “the close partnership with Serbia.”

He added he highly appreciated “that we (NATO) have improved the cooperation with Serbia.”
