Serbia’s Vucic: Important to have strong partner as Turkey
Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters in Ankara he expected further progress in relations with Turkey, adding it was important for Belgrade to have such a powerful partner.
Vucic attended the inauguration of his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after he won the presidential re-election last month.
“I expect to improve our cooperation, and I hope to see Turkish President in Serbia again soon because I believe it’s important for the county,” >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Vucic said.
He added it was essential to have Turkey as a partner and an ally rather than an adversary or an enemy.
“I’m very proud of that, and that is a result of our policy," Vucic added.
He said he talked to Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and the head of Bosnian rotating Presidency Bakir Izetbegovic, who all attended Erdoğan’s inauguration ceremony.
His bilateral meetings also included those with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban and Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov.
Turkey's long-standing leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan won a new five-year term on June 25 after securing outright victory in the first round of a presidential poll with nearly 53 percent.
His closest rival Muharrem Ince was on 31 percent.
BBC reported that Erdoğan’s would assume sweeping new powers, won in a controversial referendum last year.
The post of PM will be abolished.
