Serbia’s ruling party decides on new Belgrade mayor
The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) led by the country’s President Aleksandar Vucic decides on Monday who the new Belgrade Mayor will be after the former top city officia was elected Serbia’s Finance Minister.
The city’s assembly session is scheduled for June 7th, and by then the SNS should have its candidate.

The first name that appears in media reports is Goran Vesic, the current city manager, Irena Vujovic, the head of the Belgrade Savski Venac municipality, and the director of the University Children Hospital Zoran Radojcic.
In the local Belgrade elections in March, the SNS scored a sweeping victory securing 66 out of 110 mandates in the city assembly and can rule the capital on its own.
Former Mayor Sinisa Mali, a disputed political figure who the opposition and media blame for some wrongdoings, become Serbia’s Finance minister last week, replacing Dusan Vujovic, a world-respected economic expert, who resigned in early May, citing personal reasons.
The new mayor has to be elected by June 9.
