Serbia’s opposition leader: New talks with Democrats

Dragan Djilas, the initiator of the Alliance for Serbia opposition grouping, said on Monday he expected to talk to the newly elected president of the Democratic Party (DS), the former strongest both ruling and opposition force which he once led.

  He told Beta news agency he already had met with other DS leaders and members and that all believe that the party should be the member of the Alliance “together with other parties that want Serbia to change.”

Djilas was the head of the DS from 2012 to 2014, and the Mayor of Belgrade from 2008 to 2013.

In the last Belgrade elections in March he was a runner up with the list of groups supporting him loosing to the President Aleksandar Vucic’s Serbia Progressive Party (SNS).

Earlier on Monday, the SNS started a meeting to decide who would be the next mayor of the capital, after former one resigned to take the post of the finance minister.
