Lithuania says it doesn’t block Serbia on its EU path
Vilnius said that Lithuania “did not take any active moves” to obstruct Serbia in its accession talks about the chapter 31( foreign, security and defence policies) with the European Union, but only noted that Belgrade's foreign policy was not in line with the bloc, the European Western Balkans website reported.
The website, quoted by the FoNet news agency, said that Vilnius only noted that current Serbia’s foreign policy was in line with the EU with only 49 percent >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << which did not create “a solid political base within the bloc to start negotiating the chapter 31.”
Lithuania also said that a gradual adjustment with the EU policies and standards should be rewarded.
Earlier news suggested that Belgrade has no chance of opening the chapter because Vilnius reacted to Serbia's rejection to impose the EU sanctions on Russia for its annexation of the Crimea and policy in eastern Ukraine.
The European Western Balkans website quoted its sources as saying that the screening report on chapter 31 was “in the hands of a very influential EU member state’s foreign ministry,” but did not tell which country they referred to.
The sources also said that that state maintained that Serbia should not be put under pressure to adjust its foreign policy before the EU facilitated Belgrade – Pristina dialogue did not produce a result.
Serbia is officially not obliged to adjust its foreign policy with the bloc’s standards entirely, but can gradually do that before eventually becoming a full member state.
