Farmers give Serbian government deadline to decide on demand
The National Association of Farmers (NAPS) has given the Serbian government a week to decide about its demand to abolish excise duties on fuel for farmers, the Beta news agency reported on Tuesday.
The NAPS said that farmers would not block roads with their tractors over the next week to give the government time to consider the demand.
Farmers in some 15 places across Vojvodina blocked roads with their tractors to protest high fuel prices on Monday. That protest was organized >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << by the NAPS.
The chairman of the farmers’ organization, Jovica Jaksic told the Agrosmart portal that Monday’s protests were a warning, adding that they would get more radical unless the problem of “enormously expensive fuel for farmers” is resolved. “We are waiting for a reply from the Agriculture Ministry and we expect a meeting with the agriculture and finance ministers. The wheat harvest has started and we have to finish that job,” Jaksic said.
