NATO position on Kosovo military clear
NATO has taken the clear position that the transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces into a military is something that should be decided by Pristina, Belgrade daily Danas was told on Wednesday by an unnamed Alliance source.
A NATO official, who insisted on anonimity, told the newspaper that the Alliance >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << supports the development of the Kosovo Security Forces as part of its mandate, adding that this is a “professional force and a source of regional stability”.
The source said that it’s important to say that all communities in Kosovo as well as NATO allies will be consulted on initiatives concerning the mandate of the Kosovo Security Forces. NATO remains committed to the security and stability of Kosovo through the presence of KFOR, the source is quoted as saying.
Danas recalled that the Serbian state TV (RTS) reported earlier this week that the government in Pristina had launched plan B to form a Kosovo military “bypassing the opposition of Serb MPs and the required constitutional changes”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters on Wednesday that he is very concerned over statements by Kosovo Albanian politicians that they would form a military force by the end of the year. “They and the Americans and anyone else who supports them would bring us to an impossible position which we want to avoid at any cost,” he said and added that there is no international agreement “verbal or written” which allows the forming of Kosovo military forces.
