UN war crimes tribunal chief in Belgrade
UN war crimes tribunal President, Judge Theodor Meron met with Serbia’s Foreign and Justice Ministers, Ivica Dacic and Nela Kuburovic in Belgrade on Monday to discuss cooperation between Belgrade and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT).
Meron is on a farewell visit to the region, prior to the end of his term as president in January 2019.

The Justice Ministry said in a press release that Minister Kuburovic told Meron that Serbia wants those of its nationals who are serving their sentences in inadequate conditions to be transferred to Serbian jails under constant IRMCT supervision.
The press release quoted Meron as expressing concern over the treatment of some inmates in Estonia, adding that their transfer to some other country was being considered which he and one other judge support but the majority of judges oppose.
Kuburovic told Meron that Serbia was still waiting for a decision on an appeal by the Amicus Curiae for the Serbian judiciary to take over the case of two senior officials of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) who have been indicted for witness tampering in the case against their party leader Vojislav Seselj who was sentenced for war crimes. Kuburovic said the local judiciary was ready to take over the case.
Kuburovic also asked for documents which were not used as evidence by the Hague Tribunal to be returned to Serbia along with the opening of an information centre which would enable access to ICTY archives.
