French Ambassador: Macron's words were wrongly interpreted
The EU reforms initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron are of crucial importance to us, French Ambassador to Serbia, Frederic Mondoloni, told the Danas news portal.
Speaking at a session of the European Parliament on Tuesday, Macron said the EU had to be reformed before new members are brought in.
The Ambassador said Macron’s statement was wrongly interpreted in Serbia, and that the essence >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of what he said was that the EU reforms must be successfully implemented so that the Union can successfully expand. The European Commission mentioned the year 2025 as an encouragement, he said.
“This does not guarantee that Serbia will become an EU member in 2025, but that Serbia could, if the EU reforms are implemented and the conditions are met – and we think that they can be met if they are worked on quickly, especially in regard to articles 23 and 24 – join the EU in 2025,” Mondoloni said.
He also said that France has no special interest in intervening in regard to the recognition of Kosovo’s independence with other countries.
