EU mission in Kosovo loosing executive powers

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci on Monday handed a letter changing the current mandate of the EULEX mission in Kosovo to European Union Civilian Operations Commander Kenneth Deane and mission chief Alexandra Papadopoulou.

The content of the letter to end the mission was negotiated between Pristina and the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << EU. EULEX is loosing its executive powers and its role has been reduced to monitoring and advising.

“This has been a significant decade for Kosovo,” Thaci said at the meeting with the EULEX officials, adding that “Kosovo institutions have benefited greatly from cooperation with the mission”. “We have raised local capacities in order to take full responsibility for the rule of law thanks to this cooperation,” he said.

The current mandate of the EULEX mission ends on June 15, 2018 and the new mandate will focus on completing the transfer of powers to Kosovo institutions.
