EU focused on Serbia and region, debate told
The European Union focused strongly on the Western Balkans and Serbia over the past six months, keeping expansion high on its agenda, EU Delegation in Serbia chief Sem Fabrizi said on Thursday.
“Bulgaria’s presidency was important to keep expansion high on the EU agenda and now we are waiting for Austria’s presidency,” Fabrizi said at a debate organized by the Belgrade-based Centre for European >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Policy.
“The Council of the EU is meeting while we speak, the Union is at top speed at it’s good that Serbia is progressing. Two chapters were opened early this week and an important meeting on the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue was held last Sunday,” Fabrizi said.
Serbia’s chief negotiator with the EU Tanja Miscevic said she expects the Austrian EU presidency to continue Bulgaria’s expansion policy towards the Western Balkans.
She said Serbia is completing another negotiating position with a view to opening more chapters, adding that Austria’s presidency will provide opportunity for that.
Miscevic said efforts are underway to revise the action plans for chapters 23 and 24.
The Ambassadors of Bulgaria and Austria, Radko Vlajkov and Nikolaus Lutterotti said Serbia had achieved progress and shown political will on the path to the EU.
Vlajkov said that Serbia’s recent policies are clear proof that accession to the EU has no alternative and added that Serbia’s clear vision will bring faster progress.
Lutterotti said his country wants to see Serbia achieve even more progress during the Austrian presidency.
