EU: Decision on opening new chapters with Serbia in December
Sem Fabrizi, the head of the European Union delegation in Serbia, said on Monday the bloc would decide on opening new chapters in accession talks with Belgrade in December, adding the outcome would be based on the progress in the rule of law and in the dialogue with Pristina, the Beta news agency reported.
Fabrizi has said the opening of the chapters demands “certain activities and specific work, while the EU, following the accession framework, assesses the rule of law >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << in Serbia and the course of the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue.
He suggested to Belgrade to work as hard as possible on both issues since the decision should be brought next month.
“The decision follows talks with the EU member states on the opening of the chapters,” he told the “Leadership and Social Transformation” conference in Belgrade.
The latest news from the European Commission’s report on Serbia which the Radio Free Europe (RFE) said had access to, was not particularly encouraging for Serbia.
On the contrary, many objections prompted speculations that there would not be any new opening of the chapters this year.
However, both Serbia's Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and the country’s Minister of European Integrations Jadranka Joksimovic remained hopeful Belgarde would open three chapters by the end of the year.
