EU Commissioner says Ivanov gesture inappropriate
European Union enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn called Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov to accept responsibility for what he says is a historic and very courageous agreement between Athens and Skoplje on the name of the southernmost former Yugoslav republic.
Hahn said the decision by Ivanov as head of state to refuse to talk to the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister was inappropriate.
“I think the Prime Minister [Zoran Zaev] and Foreign Minister [Nikola Dimitrov] >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << fully respected the constitution and I can only call the president to urgently accept responsibility. This is not a case of acceptance, people are expected to talk and listen to each other in a democracy,” Hahn told the Macedonian MIA news agency.
He called the opposition to carefully read the agreement and talk to the government because this is a question of national interest and the future of the country.
