Albanian PM knows of Greater Serbia, not of Greater Albania
Edi Rama, the Albanian Prime Minister, said in Vienna that Kosovo became “a very safe place for the Serbs and (other) minorities”, and that he had heard of a Greater Serbia and a Greater Greece, but not of a Greater Albania.
He attended a promotion of the book “New State, Modern Statesman” by Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci, adding that “if we Google, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << there will be articles in Greek and Serbian, none in the Albanian language,” website KoSSev reported.
Rama said the way some portrayed the term Greater Albania was “very stigmatising, while it is just an object of interpretation.”
“But I have to be honest… I don’t see a solution. If the Albanians are left without a clear perspective and outside its natural path – to be a part of Europe – what we of course want, but if that fades out…,” Rama said.
He added that “the Greater Albania was used as an alibi” to separate the Albanians, “because if they come together, they will create a big empire.”
However, the Deutsche Welle website quoted an interview Rama gave to Politico, over a year ago, saying he could not rule out a "little union" between Albania and Albanian-dominated Kosovo if the European Union decided to take membership off the table.
"I know of Greater Serbia and Greater Greece, not for Greater Albania. And that is very dangerous. If you repeat something, that may happen. So, it is necessary for the EU to get serious since it has said it is for strictness and righteousness, but what I see are strictness and unrighteousness,” Rama said in Vienna.
He added that it was frustrating and humiliating for Kosovo Albanians that they were promised visa liberalisation after the border demarcation and that they still haven’t got it.
“People are not idiots, and especially the Albanians are not stupid. They listen, feel. We are isolated, we don’t have freedom of movement” he said, adding that “Kosovo Albanians are the only nation that cannot move freely.”
