Parliament speaker says depleted uranium killed 300 soldiers
Some 300 Italian soldiers have died of exposure to depleted uranium munitions used in the NATO air campaign against Serbia in 1999, Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic said on Monday.
“According to data in a report to the Italian parliament, some 4,000 soldiers have contracted malignant ailments and 300 have lost their lives after being in areas hit by depleted uranium munitions without any protection,” Gojkovic told the Serbian state TV (RTS).

According to Gojkovic the commission will prove that the use of depleted uranium munitions has caused a rise in the number of cases of malignant ailments in Serbia. “We have an obligation to tell the citizens that this is a crime without precedent,” she said.
