Bosnian refinery explosion caused by fault in refining unit
An explosion in the oil refinery in Bosanski Brod was probably caused by a fault n the diesel and petrol refining unit, and workers managed to prevent an even greater disaster by turning off gas supplies, Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and Bosanski Brod police chief Slobodan Milicevic told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.

Dodik visited the injured oil workers in hospital on Wednesday, calling them heroes because they managed to prevent an even greater disaster. "It was important to shut down the valves to stop the gas flow," Dodik said.
Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic met today in Slavonski Brod with the representatives of Russian ministries of economic development and energy, Croatian Energy Minister Tomislav Coric, as well as representatives of Plinacro and Crodux companies, which deal with gas transmission and trading.The Russian Zarubezhneft, which bought the Bosanski Brod refinery in 2003.
The main topic of the meeting was the process of transforming the Bosanski Brod refinery to make it gas-driven, which sould significantly reduce the problem of high levels of air pollution in the town of Slavonski Brod.The refinery is a frequent cause of concern on the Croatian side of the border, as Slavonski Brod is chronically affected by cross-border air pollution.
