Pope’s visit would be useful for Serbian people
Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that Pope Francis’ visit to Serbia would be useful for the Serbian people. ChristophVienna Cardinal Schonborn, however, said he received no information from the Pope regarding the visit.
Speaking at a press conference after the mass marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, Dacic said that relations with the holy see are often seen through >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the prism of the role of the Catholics Church in Croatia and the events that took place during the Second World War. This approach is wrong, Dacic said.
In his opinion, the Serbian Orthodox Church's communication with the Vatican is essential, and the Pope’s visit to Serbia would be a positive experience.
The question of the Pope’s visit should be asked directly, Schonborn said and added that he plans to convey the message that peoples from this region share a joint history. The Vatican cares about reconciliation in the region very much.
Asked about the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Dacic said the conference would be held on a holy place, in the Church of the Holly Mary and that the basis of every faith is hope.
"I hope the dialogue will have a successful ending and that Serbia is ready to take part in the dialogue which will lead to a compromise respecting both Serbian and Albanian people’s interests," Dacic responded.
He also thanked the Vatican for understanding, recalling his talks about the threats to the Christian, religious and cultural heritage in Kosovo.
