Serbia serves as migrant buffer zone for EU
There are some 5,000 migrants in Serbia at any given time living in a buffer zone before entering the European union, the head of an asylum seeker support organization has said.
Rados Djurovic, head of the Help Centre for Asylum Seekers, said that this is because Serbia and neighbouring Bosnia-Herzegovina are a kind of buffer zone to the European Union where migrants stay until they are allowed to move on.
“Serbia is not a member of the EU and can’t use the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Union’s mechanisms but it also does not have a clear policy to deal with the migrations and can’t rely on its southern neighbours, especially non-EU member states, which all want to get rid of refugees and don’t want to cooperate in resolving the issue,” Djurovic said.
