Serbia joins EU rights programme
Serbia became the first country of the Western Balkans to join the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship programme on Monday when Minister of Labour, Veterans’ and Social Affairs Zoran Djordjevic and EU Delegation chief Sem Fabrizi signed an agreement on the country’s accession to the program.
“Authorities, academic institutions and NGOs can now present projects to receive funds for fundamental rights, non-discrimination and equality,” Fabrizi tweeted >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << after the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, the budget for the program stands at more than 439 million Euros in grants. The program is aimed at promoting, protecting and implementing equal rights.
Djordjevic said the program will also provide the necessary experience from EU member states in fully harmonizing Serbian legislature and practices with the EU acquis communitaire.
The program focuses on goals in preventing domestic violence, protecting the rights of the handicapped, gender equality and several other basic rights segments, Fabrizi said.
