Minister: We are ready to open remaining three EU Chapters
It is in Serbia’s interest to be part of a stable European Union and the opening of new chapters in this process shows the continuous progress in negotiations about the country’s membership, Serbia’s Minister for European Integration told the local Politika newspaper.
"Taking into account the general atmosphere within the EU, which is highly tense, and in some segments polarised, as well as the skepticism >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of certain members regarding expansion, the opening of the chapter is, for us, a positive message," Minister Jadranka Joksimovic said.
She estimated that there is a good possibility that during Austria’s presiding over the Council of the EU, in the second part of this year, Serbia could open negotiations about the remaining three chapters for which it is technically prepared: Chapter 9 – financial services, Chapter 17 – economic and monetary union, and Chapter 18 – statistics.
Joksimovic added that Serbia is helping everyone in need, but that the country will not be a collection centre for migrants, as has been speculated in media recently.
