EU needs Serbia, MEP Kukan says
European Parliament official Eduard Kukan told Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Monday that the European Union needs Serbia as a regional partner.

He said that Serbia should focus on rule of law, the judiciary, combatting corruption and improving freedom of the media in its reforms, adding that the country has achieved progress in its pre-accession negotiations with the EU.
Brnabic is quoted as saying that EU membership is Serbia’s strategic goal and that reforms should primarily bring progress and better living conditions for the population.
She said her government is focusing its greatest efforts on the most demanding two chapters – 23 and 24 on rule of law and the judiciary.
The prime minister said her cabinet has a continuing dialogue with civil society organizations on the most important national issues and expressed hope that open talks with media associations will bring order in terms of media freedom and create the necessary trust on both sides.
Kukan met earlier with President Aleksandar Vucic.
