EU: ASM Statute still being drafted, deadlines defined

Office of High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini said on Friday that the drafting process of the Statute of Association of Serb Municipalities (ASM) is still ongoing, adding that both Belgrade and Pristina have agreed on clear guidelines and deadlines.

The four-month deadline by which Pristina has agreed to draft the ZSO Statute expires this Saturday, and the EU is also asking >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << that any tensions in Kosovo, which could endanger the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, are avoided.

"As soon as the Management Team in charge of drafting the Statute officially reports to the EU on how far they came in their work, their progress will be discussed at the next Brussels meeting (between Belgrade and Pristina representatives)," Mogherini’s spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic, said in a press release.

Both sides have agreed on clear guidelines and deadlines, including on drafting the Statute within four months since the Management Team’s appointment, she added.

The Brussels Agreement from 2013, and the agreements from August 2015 are the basis for the Management Team’s work, and the EU is working with both sides to guarantee that all the agreements reached in the dialogue are implemented.

"As both sides, along with the High Representative, are completely dedicated to defining the legally-binding agreement on normalisation of relations, the EU expects – as the two Presidents have agreed at the July 18 meeting in Brussels – that all tensions on the field which could endanger the normalisation will be avoided," Kocijancic said.
