Pristina says no need for EULEX in Kosovo

The government and opposition in Pristina feel that the European Union rule of law mission in Kosovo will not longer be needed after June 14, Pristina media reported on Monday.

Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri said the Kosovo judiciary has the necessary capacities to continue on its own without the EULEX >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << mission while opposition Kosovo Democratic Alliance MP Naser Rugova thinks the mission should be withdrawn once its term expires under existing agreements.

In a written reply to N1, EULEX said its mandate is up to June 14, 2018. “The exact format and number of staff that EULEX will have after June 2018 is still under consideration and will depend on the decision of member states. The plan is that once the mandate expires on June 14, EULEX will no longer have judges and prosecutors in the Kosovo judiciary system. The mission will maintain some monitoring activities, especially on court cases which are in the process of being transferred to the local judiciary,” the EU mission said.
