Serbia increases agriculture production insurance subsidies
Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture said on Friday that the government would increase its subsidies for the insurance of the agriculture production from 40 to 70 percent in the most endangered area to motivate farmers to protect their crops better.
Speaking to the state RTS television Branislav Nedimovic said that the bad weather hit 21 municipalities, which urgently needed state's help.
“The first programme envisages that people will get from a 1,000 to 5,000 Euros >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << for houses and apartment buildings depending on the level of damage. Then we will help the damaged agriculture land and infrastructural installations,” Nedimovic said.
He added the farmers should be educated more about how to use the insurance for future damage caused by the bad weather.
“The state now gives 40 percent insurance premium, and the sum will go up. For the heavily hit areas in recent years it will be even 70 percent,” Nedimovic said, adding that it should be enough.
He has said that 504 farmers have so far applied for the aid from the IPARD programme and that ten of the requests have been processed, adding that until the end of the year there will be four more contests, as a part of the programme which is vital for the harmonisation of Serbia’s and common EU agriculture policies.
