Russian ambassador says Kosovo is part of Serbia
Kosovo should be returned to Serbia in line with international law, Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Aleksandar Chepurin said in an interview published on Monday.
“Kosovo is Serb land, the cradle of Serbia and its holy site and should be returned to the legal and state control of Serbia under international law,” the ambassador told the Moscow State Institute for International Affairs magazine which is published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Chepurin >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << said the situation with Kosovo is the same as with the Crimea which is Russian land returned to Russia. Under UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of June 10, 1999, Kosovo is part of Serbia and there is no other international legal framework, Chepurin is quoted as saying by the Sputnik portal.
The self-proclaimed pseudo state of Kosovo is separated from Serbia by a quasi-border with Serbs living in a compact community in the north of Kosovo where Pristina practically has no authority, he said.
The ambassador said there are three points in official Moscows stand on Kosovo.
“First, we do not recognize the state of Kosovo and strictly adhere to resolution 1244. Only Belgrade Belgrade and Pristina can agree on the status and degree of autonomy of the province. Second, the decision has to be taken without Western pressure on Belgrade and third, we will be ready to help find a compromise and viable solution,” he said.
