Montenegro deploying officers in Kosovo

Montenegro’s parliament on Thursday voted to send two staff officers to Kosovo as part of the KFOR mission.

Parliament also voted to send 40 military personnel to Afghanistan as part of the Resolute Support mission.

Defence Minister Predrag Boskovic told MPs before the vote that membership in NATO means that Montenegro can step up its presence in international missions, raising the country’s credibility. >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << “Active participation and contributions demonstrate the state’s responsibility and awareness of the need to maintain security in the world,” the minister said and recalled that 24 percent of Montenegrin military personnel have already been deployed in international missions.

The decision to deploy two staff officers in Kosovo met with criticism from opposition Democratic Front MP Andrija Mandic who said the decision is not a good one. “This maintains the policy which has deeply divided us since 2008 when Montenegro recognized the self-proclaimed southern Serbian province of Kosovo as an independent state,” he said.
