Kosovo wants historic agreement with Serbia
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci told ambassadors and international mission chiefs in Pristina that the time has come for “a great historic agreement between Kosovo and Serbia” which will be hard to reach because of opposition in both Kosovo and Serbia.
“We can’t go back because the history of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is a tragic story. We can’t stay in place or in a stalemate and we don’t have >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << anything to wait for because delays in resolving Kosovo-Serbia relations is an invitation for tensions, destabilization, huge problems, not just between us but in the entire region,” Thaci is quoted as saying in a press release from the president’s cabinet.
He warned against views that time will solve the Kosovo problem. “Kosovo is tired of delays in internal and international consolidation because Serbia is interfering and because the European Union has failed to reach a consensus on recognizing Kosovo or because many people think that things will solve themselves in time. It turns out that this line of thinking is completely wrong,” the Kosovo president said.
Kosovo wants a permanent agreement with Serbia which should not be “another transitional agreement which will only prolong problems”. “The normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations means a formal, reciprocal mutual recognition,” he said, adding that recognition has to be followed by a border correction process.
“This process will mark the end of the Kosovo-Serbia conflict which has been ongoing for more than a century,” Thaci added.
