Unions should have reacted earlier, education minister says

Education unions have a legitimate right to raise their voice against new wage groups but they had to react earlier when the pattern for the wage groups was created, said Education Minister Mladen Sarcevic.

Speaking for Politika and Vecernje Novosti dailies, Sarcevic said this was not a serious protest but rather a warning because the unions knew the beginning of the school year would be “more visible” in the public.

“I did not create the patterns and cannot answer >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << all the questions. I was constantly cooperating with teachers and I still believe there is some time left for negotiations, which the prime minister said during the last week’s session of the Government of Serbia,” said the minister.

According to the new regulations, Sarcevic noted, the future increase of salary will depend on the years in service, pedagogical degree and other circumstances the teachers work in.
