Kosovo story over - empty talks, says Serbia’s FM
Ivica Dacic, Serbia’s Foreign Minister, said on Monday that Pristina could not consider any border demarcation with Serbia on its own, but that such move demanded a compromise, the Beta news agency reported.
Dacic commented on the news that a Kosovo government commission had started preparations for a border demarcation with Serbia, as reported by the Serbian state TV (RTS).
“There is no >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << doubt that we want a compromising solution. The (Belgrade – Pristina) dialogue continues in September,” the minister told reporters at a news conference with Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, his Ghana’s counterpart.
“But, what demarcation are they talking about? You well know that there is an administrative line which is under the (NATO force in Kosovo) KFOR’s control for the last 20 years,” Dacic said.
Botchwey told news conference with Dacic that her country’s government would reconsider the decision to recognise Kosovo’s independence. “It’s true that the decision was made several years ago, but our presence here is essential, she said, adding that no Ghana’s official had ever visit Kosovo. "We would rather have relations with you because you are our allies,”Botchwey told reporters.
Commenting on reports that everything regarding Kosovo was a done deal, he said “those are empty talks. We want the best for everyone.”
Dacic added that if Kosovo’s officials thought that a compromising solution meant an annexation of (Serbia’s three southern municipalities with an ethnic Albanian majority) Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, “they don’t understand at all the situation they are in.”
Asked about a popular vote as a way for people (in Serbia) to decide on any Kosovo solution, Dacic told reporters they “went too far.”
“We are at the end of the beginning of this negotiating chapter, searching for a creative solution, as the US administration likes to say,” Dacic added.
