Serbian minister on responsibility for wall collapse
Serbia’s Construction and Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Tuesday that she wants full responsibility determined following the collapse of a supporting wall over the Corridor 10 road in the Grdelica Gorge.
“Two things are important – completing the Corridor 10 and its safety and determining the responsibility for the collapse of the wall which I will insist on,” Mihajlovic told TV Prva. She said she would also insist on a review of the 2010 project and why >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << it had to be re-drafted 11 times.
Mihajlovic said human error was to blame as well as nature, adding that the important thing is that repairs have started. The minister recalled that an inspection of the 100 or so slopes along the Corridor 10 had been ordered following the first wall collapse.
“We got a report from World Bank experts, a repair project was drawn up and started but the segments which would have prevented the collapse was not completed,” she said.
The minister said bridges in Serbia are safe and are regularly maintained, recalling that she ordered an inspection of bridges across the country following the bridge collapse in Genoa.
