Israel, Trump, and Middle Eastern Balances
The working lunch at Mar-a-Lago between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu projected a united front between Israel and the United States, but it does not alleviate Israeli concerns about the geostrategic situation in the Middle East. Trump praised Netanyahu’s “phenomenal work” as a “wartime Prime Minister” and highlighted his pro-Israel positions since 2016, including the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and support for Israel’s efforts to counter Iran’s nuclear and ballistic potential. These accolades will undoubtedly bolster Netanyahu politically ahead of the next parliamentary election scheduled for fall 2026, while Trump also mentioned the possibility of a presidential pardon for the Israeli Prime Minister.
