Serbian authorities will fall like house of cards

Serbian opposition leader Dragan Djilas wrote in an opinion piece for a Belgrade newspaper that he believes that the current authorities will topple “like a house of cards”.

“The regime which seems invincible today will topple like a house of cards and a large part of Serbia will find out what has been going on for years. I hope their memory won’t be short lived like it was 20 years ago,” Djilas wrote in an opinion piece for Belgrade daily Danas on the anniversary of the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << fall of the Milosevic regime on October 5 2000.

Djilas is a founding member of the opposition group Alliance for Serbia.

The former Belgrade mayor and cabinet minister wrote that crime levels are worse now than they were when the late President Slobodan Milosevic was in power because “crime has become linked to the state”, adding that tens of thousands of people are leaving the country every year.

According to Djilas, Milosevic destroyed the economy while the current authorities are selling off Serbia. He also feels that the Serbian state TV is as closed to the opposition as it was under the Milosevic regime in the 1990s.
