Kosovo's President and Serbia’s PM together in Minsk
The Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic will take part in the core group meeting of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) on Wednesday in Minsk, her cabinet said in a statement, while the office of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said the two would take part at the same panel, the FoNet news agency reported.
Brnabic’s cabinet did not mention any possible encounter with Thaci, saying she would meet Belarus President and Prime Minister Alexandar Lukashenko and Sergei Rumas >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << respectively at the sidelines of the conference.
Thaci’s office also issued a statement saying he would take part at the same panel with Brnabic. It added that ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger, the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference for the last ten years, who, according to the statement, had invited Thaci to Minsk, would moderate the panel.
Thaci would speak about “the efforts in building a stable peace and strengthening the Euro-Atlantic perspective for Kosovo and the region.”
It is not clear whether the Belgarde - Pristina dialogue will be on the conference's agenda.
Thaci and his Serbia’s counterpart Aleksandar Vucic last met in Brussels in July, while in September they only had separate talks with Federica Mogherini, the EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy chief.
Since then, the talks have been on hold without any sign when they will resume.
Belgrade – Pristina relations remain one of the key regional issues with both sides entrenched in the positions which could hardly lead to a legally binding document on normalisation of relations.
The Minsk conference is organised because “mutual trust between East and West shrunk back to lows not seen since the Cold War,” the MSC said on its website.
It added it “sees the imperative to maintain open channels of communication, foster mutual understanding and tend to dependable personal networks at the highest political levels. The event will bring together senior government officials, members of parliament as well as representatives from international organisations, civil society, and the private sector.”
