If Troika solves Kosovo, they may win Nobel, daily says
If they untie Kosovo’s knot, the Brussels - Belgrade – Pristina troika may be nominated for the Nobel peace prize, the daily Danas reported on Wednesday, quoting international diplomatic sources.
Federica Mogherini, the European Union's diplomacy chief who has facilitated the Belgrade - Pristina dialogue in Brussels, Hashim Thaci and Aleksandar Vucic, Kosovo’s >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and Serbia's presidents respectively, could be awarded the world’s highest decoration for the contribution to peace, but the prospect of their success looks bleak at the moment.
The three are scheduled to meet again in early September, amid ever-growing tensions about the possible solutions to the Kosovo issue.
Belgrade is publicly supporting the separation with the Albanians, with Vucic warning that if that doesn’t happen, the Serbs, due to its reduced and ageing population, will slowly disappear.
Pristina says the border correction is necessary to include the annexation of Serbia’s southern region of Presevo Valley mostly populated by ethnic Albanians, falling short of saying what Belgrade might expect in return.
However, Danas’ sources say that Thaci’s nomination for the Nobel peace prize has its first step in the promotion of his biography in Western capitals.
“New state and statesman” book is written by The Times’ diplomatic editor Roger Boyes and a long-time daily reporter Suzy Jagger, with the forward by former US Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole, said to be one of the current President Donald Trump’s advisors.
Danas’ sources said the book had already been promoted in London, Berlin, Paris and Vienna.
