Serbia second largest beer exporter to EU
Marking the World Beer Day on Friday, the Eurostat website published data about beer production and export in 2017, saying Serbia was the second largest beer exporter to European Union, following Mexico.
Though the internal market for beers containing alcohol that are not produced in the EU is marginal, the Eurostat website said, when importing >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << from non-EU-countries, EU Member States favoured Mexican beer with 211 million litres in 2017, ahead of Serbian beer with 48 million litres.
The website said that in 2017, over 41 billion litres of beer containing alcohol were produced in the EU, 2.5 billion litres more than in 2016.The EU’s beer production was equivalent to almost 81 litres per inhabitant.
Besides, the EU produced nearly 900 million litres (two percent) of beer which contained less than 0.5 percent alcohol or had no alcohol content at all.
Two-thirds of the beer containing alcohol produced in the EU came from six Member States. Germany was the top producer with 8.1 billion litres (or 20 percent of the EU total production), what meant that about one in every five beers containing alcohol produced in the EU originated from that country.
The United Kingdom follows with (5.6 billion litres produced or 14 percent. Others included Poland with four billion litres, the Netherlands with 3.9, Spain with 3.6 and Belgium with 2.4 billion litres.
On the export side, The Netherlands tops the list with 1.9 billion alcohol beer in 2017, making it the largest exporter of all EU Member States.
The US was by far the leading destination for beer exports to non-EU countries with 1.1 billion litres of beer containing alcohol exported there in 2017, or a third of total extra-EU exports of beer.
