Paolo Cirio & Alessandro Ludovico

Dom Omladine, Beograd
Thursday 7 Apr 16:45

Face to Facebook is the third piece of the 'The Hacking Monopolism Trilogy', which began with Google Will Eat Itself and Amazon Noir.
This project takes a hard look at Facebook’s privacy rules by liberating personal data. Face to Facebook deals with privacy questions in online contexts based on the most iconic of all platforms. Following the principle of Facebook, the artists have built a dating website into which they have imported, using a special software, 250,000 Facebook profiles, With a newly developed facial recognition algorithm, they have classified the profiles – as an ironic comment on the judgments made daily about people we don’t know – into different categories depending on their features and expressions. Being judged is the price everyone must pay to be involved in social networks. The project sneers at the trust that is brought to the platform by 500 million users, reminding them that there are – just as in the ‘real’ world – consequences to publishing intimate, personal information on social networks.
Paolo Cirio works as media artist in various fields - net-art, street-art, video-art, software-art and experimental fiction. He has won prestigious art awards and his controversial works have been sustained by research grants, collaborations and residencies. He has exhibited in museums and art institutions worldwide. As public speaker he delivers lectures and workshops on media tactics.
Alessandro Ludovico is a media critic and editor in chief of Neural magazine since 1993. He's one of the founders of the Mag.Net (Electronic Cultural Publishers organization). He also served as an adviser for Documenta 12's Magazine Project. He has been a guest researcher at the Willem De Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. He teaches at the Academy of Art in Carrara.
The event will be held @ Sala Amerikana.
