Serbian minister speaks out against profanity, pornography
Serbia’s Culture and Information Minister Vladan Vukosavljevic said he would continue calling TV Pink owner Zeljko Mitrovic and all other users of national frequencies to reduce the amount of profanity, pornography and other inappropriate behaviour in their programmes.
Responding to accusations from Mitrovic, who is considered to be closely associated to the authorities, that the minister is “the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << modern day inquisitor who can allow himself to say that the people are crazy”, Vukosavljevic recalled that his exact words were that the Serbs “are not a nation of crazy people” despite what he said are “Mitrovic’s years of evident efforts to change that fact”.
“If Mitrovic considers me to be the inquisitor against bad taste, spiritual poverty and profanity, I see that as a kind of compliment and I thank him,” the minister said, adding that Serbian society deserves to be free of “profanity, verbal and physical pornography and other types of inappropriate behaviour”. He said liberal media models allow for the production of appropriate entertainment if the producers are “sufficiently socially and morally articulate”.
The minister said on Tuesday that there should be special subscription for reality shows which he feels should not be aired on open channels with national frequencies. Mitrovic reacted calling Vukosavljevic a minister from the stone age.
