Six MIG 29 aircraft to arrive to Serbia by the end of March

Minister of Defense Zoran Djordjevic said today that six MIG 29, which Serbia gets from Russia, should arrive to our country in three months, and then the modernization follows in three stages. He said that the purchase of MIGs is one of the subjects of talks between Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic and Defense Minister Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoygu, and besides that, they will talk about the military and military-economic and educational cooperation.

As he said, Serbian has been waiting for >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu Telegraf.rs << 25 on getting those MIGs, that there were various promises but that this government managed to get them. With the existing four MIGs and with purchase of six more, our country will have the most modern squadron in the region.

He added that in this moment there is no country that is leveled with Serbia, and that our country is in the top when it comes to air force, because those are the most modern aircraft that exist in region.

Six MIGs arriving from Russia will be modernized in three stages, he explained, first ends in 2017, second in 2018, and the third in 2019, after that, the MIGs will be in use for 14 more years.

When asked to compare MIG 21 and 29, Minister of Defense said it is hard to compare them because it would be like organizing a rally race where a medium performance car competes against a racing car.

- Our MIG 29 is a top class and it is hardly compared to any MIG 21 - Djordjevic said.

As he said, Serbia gets MIGs with its own resources, but under favorable conditions.

- The purchase will cost a lot less than buying new MIGs or getting them on the market and rebuilding them - he concluded.
