Serbia’s Vucic: No Kosovo solution in sight

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic told the Kosovo Serbs on Thursday that Belgrade did not have any answer to Kosovo issue, the Beta news agency reported.

However, he said, Serbia had an opportunity to at least get something, instead of losing everything.

“I told them (the Kosovo Serbs) that we don’t have any solution in sight. We are trying >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << to find some common ground. I will not go public in Belgrade until I talk to you who got 80 percent of the votes (in Kosovo), and gave mi 85 percent in Kosovo (in the presidential election),” Vucic told the state RTS television.

Vucic added that Belgrade would not be granted the partition of Kosovo as a solution, and said he would address the nation in September when he said he would quote some foreign intelligence services’ officials. He did not elaborate.

Vucic said that his earlier statement that if there were no demarcation of the boundaries with Kosovo, Serbs would have to defend Vranje (a town in southern Serbia) in 40 years from now was in fact optimistic.

“It was an optimistic statement; we will get there in 20 years. Demography works against us. They (the Albanians) are more motivated than the Serbs to protect whatever they think is theirs,” Vucic said.

Earlier on Thursday, Kosovo leaders said that Pristina would not accept any division, neither would it consider the exchange of the territories (north of Kosovo for the Presevo Valley, a part of Serbia's south populated mostly by ethnic Albanians).

Instead, Kosovo's President Hashim Thaci announced the talks with the ethnic Albanians there who said they wanted to join Kosovo in future.
