RSF wants to meet Vucic over Serbia's media situation

Serbia does not perform well when it comes to media freedom, said Director of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in the Balkans, Pauline Ades-Mevel, adding that RSF representatives would like to meet with President Aleksandar Vucic, who had proposed a meeting.

In Serbia, it is unfortunately possible to attack journalists verbally, physically or via social media with impunity and the country does not rank well in the latest RSF Report.

Serbia fell 10 places lower compared >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << to last year, Ades-Mevel told N1.

Many journalists reported being threatened verbally or via social media, some were even assaulted, but the attacks were not investigated and the perpetrators were never punished, she said.

President Vucic said he wants to see the situation improve, and that he would be pleased to meet with RSF representatives, she said, adding “we would like this too.”

Journalists expect condemnations and punishments, and it is very important that a leader like Vucic denounces such attacks and “supports what he said with action,” she emphasized.
