Pristina rejects decision to ban Thaci from border talks
The Parliament of Kosovo did not pass on Thursday a decision to ban President Hashim Thaci from negotiating border changes in the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue with his Serbia’s counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, N1 reported.
Earlier on Thursday, 44 out of 120 deputies demanded an extraordinary session to discuss Thaci’s suggestion on border correction with Belgrade as a part of a comprehensive settlement and a >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << legally binding agreement on normalisation of relations.
The opposition says it wants “a red line” in the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue, not to bloc it.
Thaci’s parliamentary opponents requested a resolution to say that “the territory of the Republic of Kosovo is definite and inseparable, so no one, not even a president, has the mandate to discuss it.”
Thaci has been advocating what he calls border correction, saying it means the annexation of Serbia’s southern region mostly populated by the ethnic Albanians, and denying it may include any division of Kosovo or territory swap with Belgrade.
Neither the opposition nor the Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj supports his idea.
However, those in favour of limiting the president's powers in the European Union-mediated dialogue with Belgrade got the support of 50 deputies, while 61 votes were needed to pass the resolution.
