Minister: Serbia 25 years behind in environmental protection
Serbia’s Environment Minister said the country was 25 years behind the developed European countries in the environmental protection, the Beta news agency reported.
In a meeting with Zsuzsanna Hargitai, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) director for Serbia and the Western Balkans, Goran Trivan said that the other countries faced the same problems but that they joined the European Union with help from the EBRD.
"The cooperation with the EBRD >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << during all these years has been excellent, and the bank is a partner which will actively support all our priorities, from wastewater, municipal waste to (garbage dump) Vinca which has become a paradigm for our fight for the clean environment and our cooperation with the EBRD,” Trivan said.
Hargitai added that the EBRD would invest one-third of the funds planned for projects in Serbia into the green economy.
She added that the programme Green Cities, aimed at helping cities solve systemic problems such as the air quality, energy efficiency, municipal waste and water treatment, would cover Belgrade and then other Serbia’s towns and cities.
