Situation in North Kosovska Mitrovica calm, but tense
Although it is quiet in the north of Kosovska Mitrovica on Saturday, the atmosphere is still tense after a Friday protest over the arrest of four Serbs, three suspected of killing a Kosovo Serb leader and one for resisting police.
Kosovo police arrested early Friday morning three suspects of the January killing of Kosovo Serb politician Oliver Ivanovic, which some Kosovo Serbs saw as a cover-up and took to the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << streets the same day.
The head of the Serb List, a party supported by Belgrade, Igor Simic, said that the arrests linked to Ivanovic’s murder were “a brutal lie to cover up the intimidation of people.”
The protesters declared that they will stay living in northern Kosovo and that they also demand Prishtina to withdraw its decision to impose a 100 percent import tax on products from Serbia and Bosnia, the two countries in the region that have not recognized Kosovo’s independence.
